Background of the Study
Environmental taxes are gaining recognition as an effective tool for addressing environmental degradation and promoting sustainable development. These taxes are designed to internalize the environmental costs of economic activities, incentivizing businesses and individuals to adopt eco-friendly practices. In Keffi LGA, the implementation of environmental taxes is seen as a potential mechanism to address pressing environmental challenges, including waste management and deforestation.

However, public opinion plays a critical role in the successful implementation of environmental taxes. Understanding how residents of Keffi LGA perceive environmental taxes—whether as a burden or as a necessary step towards sustainability—is crucial for policymakers. This study seeks to examine public opinion on environmental tax implementation in Keffi LGA and its implications for policy adoption.

Statement of the Problem
Despite the potential benefits of environmental taxes, public resistance due to inadequate awareness, perceived unfairness, or financial burden can hinder their effective implementation. In Keffi LGA, limited data exists on public opinion regarding environmental taxes, creating a gap in understanding the factors influencing acceptance or resistance.

Aim and Objectives of the Study

  • To assess public opinion on environmental tax implementation in Keffi LGA.

  • To identify factors influencing public acceptance of environmental taxes.

  • To propose strategies for improving public awareness and acceptance of environmental taxes.

Research Questions

  1. What is the public opinion on environmental tax implementation in Keffi LGA?

  2. What factors influence public acceptance of environmental taxes?

  3. What strategies can improve public awareness and acceptance of environmental taxes?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Public opinion does not significantly affect environmental tax implementation in Keffi LGA.

  2. Factors influencing public acceptance do not significantly impact environmental tax implementation.

  3. Proposed strategies do not significantly improve public awareness and acceptance of environmental taxes.

Significance of the Study
This study provides insights into public perception of environmental taxes in Keffi LGA, offering valuable recommendations for policymakers to enhance public engagement and acceptance.

Scope and Limitation of the Study
The study focuses on public opinion regarding environmental tax implementation in Keffi LGA. Limitations include potential biases in self-reported data and variability in environmental awareness levels among respondents.
